Sustainable Living at Home

Home, Sweet (and Sustainable) Home
Home is at the center of our lives. We don't even think about it anymore, but since the first Human beings on Earth, they have sought shelter to protect themselves from external elements: attacks, bad weather, cold, heat.
Furthermore, the consumer society has made us accumulate goods, not always very well chosen, not always of very good quality, which we were then able to throw away, to buy the latest object, or simply in another color.
Finally, the recent period of inflation, and particularly in the price of energy, has encouraged us all to be more sober, and to equip our homes accordingly: better insulation, reducing heating by a few degrees, changing energy equipment. fossils against a heat pump, etc.
The causes and consequences of climate change remind us of these essentials:
- Everyone needs a roof over their heads to feel safe
- The necessity of certain purchases can easily be questioned by applying the 3R rule: repair, recycling, reuse (and even first “refuse”…)
- Energy is the characteristic of our modern world but obtaining it from fossil fuels alone is no longer possible; we must encourage the development of renewable energies.
For years, Europ Assistance, in support of insurers and in particular Generali, has developed home assistance services which address all these essentials:
- Interventions in emergency cases, following simple water damage, but increasingly also during climatic events: floods, storms, torrential rains, wild fire,
- Research and proposal of solutions to repair home appliances,
- Advice on energy savings means and the installation and protection of renewable energy solutions (particularly solar panels).
To better understand the needs of our customers and users, we conducted a study in August 2023 as close as possible to our territories, in 7 European countries (Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Austria), and we made it publicly and free of charge available to our customers, but also to all person interested in the subject.
We have built ”sustainable home” solutions booklet which we provide to our B-partners in order to initiate a co-creation process on innovative solutions, responding to strategies for reducing carbon emissions, or adapting to the consequences of climate change:
- Home emergency for climate risks, to prevent risks and intervene if necessary (France)
- Green IT services, to raise awareness and train our customers on extending the lifespan of their IT equipment, (Austria)
- Home appliance & consumer electronics repairs (Spain, Italy, CEE…)
- Protect Solar Panel, to ensure the maintenance and proper functioning of solar panels (Spain, Portugal)
Europ Assistance continues to adapt and develop its offers in favor of sustainable development to actively contribute to reducing our impact and leaving behind a livable world for future generations.
