Health & Wellbeing Ambassadors

In 2020, while the global pandemic was reshaping our lifestyles, a group of 11 colleagues passionate for well-being sought worldwide connection and started reflecting on the strategic importance Employee Wellbeing. They all come from different backgrounds and from different geographies but had one thing in common: they recognised employee wellbeing as a top priority in the organizational culture.
Over the past six years, Generali Employee Benefits Network (GEB) initiated business partnerships with digital health and well-being providers to offer services supporting GEB clients' employees' well-being.
At little later the H&W Ambassador team was re-established (after an initial group in the previous HQ in Brussels) with the mission to “Raise the employer value proposition by reassuring employees that the company cares for them with a formal wellbeing action plan”. GEB wanted to walk the talk and not only provide free access to the digital health solutions for GEB employees, but approach employee wellbeing from a more strategic perspective.
Initially the strategy was focused on mental wellbeing, given the impact proven impact of the global pandemic on mental health. GEB created a mental health manifesto, rolled out a global EAP programme, scheduled emotional wellbeing talks, where senior management shared their stories and strategies to cope and implemented mental health literacy training as a mandatory learning and development topic. Other Generali companies became aware of the initiatives and sought advice from GEB, including Generali HQ and GC&C.
But GEB wanted to go further, acknowledging employee wellbeing from a holistic perspective. Therefore the GEB H&W strategy is based on best practice models which build on four pillars of wellbeing:
Mental | Physical | Financial | Social
The team was initially led by H&W experts, Daniela Masters, Head of Global Health & Wellness Programs and Charlotte Hooper, HR Business Partner and former Business Partnerships Manager. Freya Cook, HR business Partner UK has since taken on a lead role to represent the HR function. The team meets bi-weekly and the participation in on volunteering basis to create a culture of wellbeing at GEB worldwide.
Over the course of nearly three years, the Ambassadors implemented annual plans with the support of an approved budget within the HR department. These plans focused on priority activities, with emphasis on charitable purposes whenever feasible.

In addition to the internal GEB initiatives, GEB also coordinates closely with Generali UK and Europ Assistance on their global initiatives with the help of the GEB HR and Communications Team.
One achievement that I take particular pride in is the establishment of a football team in Luxembourg. It is a team of skilled GEBers players, including some former professionals.
In the beginning of 2023, I started conversations with the manager of the Social Goal Association, which operates globally from Luxembourg. I conducted in parallel interviews with colleagues to assess their interest, and the response was fantastic!
As a results, we have formed a football team consisting of 17 players, counting also captain and vice-captain, enrolled in the 5x5 Futsal Corporate League.
We chose Social Goal because it is matching our values: Social Impact, Equality, Team Work and Innovation.
Certainly, our participation fee contributes to the mission of Social Goal, which involves supporting local NGOs in Luxembourg and fostering CSR initiatives that create sustainable social impact in our communities.
The team is inclusive, open to both female & male players, and individuals of all skill levels, ensuring diversity and equality. The participation is also fostered by live an unique corporate sport experience.
Football is more than just physical exercise. It enhances body strength, teaches coordination. Moreover, it promotes teamwork and the sharing of results. Our team actively participates in these aspects, emphasizing the significance of fostering team spirit and achieving common goals in our daily work routines.
Football also provides opportunities for networking with other corporations, including key clients and direct competitors. It is a way to connect and have fun together.
At GEB, we recognize the importance of promoting and investing in such powerful activities. Stay tuned for more initiatives in 2024. GO RED LIONS! We are proud of our team!
