The 55 edition of the Barcolana presented by Generali officially closed on Sunday 26 November. At 50 days from the race, held on October 8, the crews who obtained the best placings in the different categories went on the podium of the Politeama Rossetti of Trieste and celebrated an edition characterized by so much public and very little wind.
During the award ceremony, Barcolana presented 121 awards, honoring the top three crews and the Cruise class for each participating category. Among the historical trophies, was awarded the Award "Women in Sailing by Generali" to the first three women skipper-managers classified: Federica Tuniz (Bandito), Giovanna Micol (Strambapapà) and Giulia Leghissa (Anywave Junior), respectively first, second and third. In this edition, also, two special mentions were added to helmsman Marta Benussi of ARCA SGR and Alice Linussi of Anemos II / Allianz Spa respectively ranked first overall and first classified in the category Cruise.
"The Generali - Women in Sailing Trophy was created to support women’s leadership in sailing to promote change towards a more inclusive and sustainable society," said Emma Ursich, Head of Corporate Identity of the Generali Group. "A change that also involves training: the award consists of a coaching and leadership path, customized according to the needs of the winner, by Generali Academy, the group corporate university".
The 1800 boats registered enchanted thousands of spectators, who enjoyed a festive atmosphere and the many activities and children’s workshops dedicated to environmental issues and sharing proposed by The Human Safety Net.
Barcolana was, again this year, a time for promoting a culture of team sports as well as environmental sustainability and inclusion issues, especially gender equality - values that Generali shares with this event and that continue to be at the heart of our Group’s initiatives.
