Generali launches scholarships in honour of Prof. Ermanno Pitacco

Trieste – Generali announces the establishment of a scholarship and the co-funding of a Junior Researcher position, in collaboration with the MIB Trieste School of Management and the Department of Economics, Business, Mathematics and Statistics (DEAMS) of the University of Trieste respectively, in honour of Prof. Ermanno Pitacco, the world-renowned scholar and lecturer, who died at the age of 75 in the autumn of 2022.
The initiative was announced today in Trieste during an event commemorating Prof. Ermanno Pitacco at MIB Trieste School of Management.
Generali will establish the Prof. Ermanno Pitacco scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year for the Master’s programme in Insurance & Risk Management. In addition, it will co-fund a Junior Researcher position in the field of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences in collaboration with the University of Trieste.

With these initiatives, we want to keep his legacy of outstanding research and teaching alive, so that this area of study will continue to grow and help the most promising young talent.”
Pitacco was a lecturer of great stature and wide renown at the University of Trieste, where he was Full Professor of Actuarial Mathematics and Insurance Techniques from 1981 and among the founders of the degree course in Statistical and Actuarial Sciences. A mathematician and insurance technique expert, Prof. Pitacco was also the creator and Academic Director of the MIB Trieste School of Management Master’s programme in Insurance & Risk Management.
Playing a leading role among Italian actuaries and always active in the actuarial community, Ermanno Pitacco was Chairman of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Board of the National Association of Actuaries and Affiliate Member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK). In 1996, he was awarded the prestigious INA Prize for Actuarial Mathematics by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and in 2011 he received the equally important “Bob Alting von Geusau Memorial” international prize for actuarial studies.
