Generali publishes “Protection”, the newest edition of the Bollettino
Generali has published the newest edition of the Bollettino, the Group's historic magazine since 1893 and the oldest corporate magazine in Italy, reporting on current affairs through the voices of journalists, experts, and the Company's Top Managers, together with the internal editorial staff.
The latest issue of the magazine – titled “Protection” – offers a snapshot of a world in which the uncertainties in our lives are increasing due to climate change, technological revolutions, geopolitical crises and their resulting impact on the economy. Faced with a contemporary world that seems to be travelling at an elusive speed, this edition of the Bollettino Generali focuses on a matter that the Company, as an insurer, holds very dear: the concept of ‘protection’.
“We believe that in this historical phase there is a great need for fixed points, for careful observation, but, at the same time, also for new direction. This is why we decided to explore the concept of ‘protection’ by expanding it towards the new needs of the present and the opportunities of the future”, said Andrea Sironi, Chairman of Generali. “The current and relatable sense of insecurity should not prevent us from looking ahead, motivated to grasp the most productive and positive aspects of technological innovation, advances in scientific research and the resourcefulness of new generations. We can face all the various challenges, leveraging curiosity and the desire to understand the complexity that surrounds us.”
The idea of ‘protection’ is addressed from different viewpoints: the changes in the business world, the climate transition, the emergence of new risks linked to cyber-security, the questions and uncertainties emerging from the younger generations. The contributions included in this issue of the Bollettino try to find solutions, capture the most relevant trends in our society, and investigate our ever more complex present.
“In a period of great uncertainty driven by changes in our climate, consistent technological evolution and demographical trends, it is essential to understand the impact of these challenges on the well-being of individuals, communities and the planet,” said Generali Group CEO, Philippe Donnet. “Providing adequate responses in an increasingly challenging geopolitical scenario will therefore be the key challenge of the coming years whilst we continue to do what insurance has always done: be by the side of individuals, families and businesses, protecting them against risks and making society as a whole stronger and more resilient.”
The newest issue of the Bollettino was illustrated by Jacopo Rosati, who represented the many different meanings of ‘protection’: not only that of ‘defence’, which of course is important and valuable, but also of ‘rescue’, of ‘taking care’ of the most vulnerable and important things, and of ‘promoting’ relevant activities and initiatives.
The magazine includes an editorial by Generali Chairman Andrea Sironi, an analysis by Group CEO Philippe Donnet, and an article by Group Chief Security Officer Remo Marini, as well as contributions from external authors such as Paola Peduzzi, Deputy Editor of Il Foglio; Davide Burchiellaro, Deputy Head of Content of Linkiesta; Lydia Romano Dishman, Journalist and Business Columnist; Swenja Surminski, Climate and Sustainability Manager at Marsh McLennan and Professor at the London School of Economics; Viana Conti, Art Critic, Essayist, and Journalist.
In addition, the internal editorial staff offers a perspective on the increasing need for protection in today’s world through some of Generali’s international initiatives from the activities of The Human Safety Net in support of people living in vulnerable circumstances, to the commitment for a collective effort through public-private partnerships such as the one the Group has with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) aimed at providing protection in the face of uncertainty and promoting sustainable development.
Bollettino Generali
The Bollettino is the Generali Group magazine. Its date of birth in 1893 makes it the oldest corporate magazine in Italy and one of the most extensive and varied sources that Generali's Historical Archive has preserved for the benefit of scholars, researchers and anyone interested in the Company's history. It also offers a perspective on the evolution of the business and the national and international socio-cultural fabric in which Generali has operated in for almost two hundred years since its foundation.
Its mission is to offer readers an insight into the scenarios that influence the present and, above all, the future, relevant to their daily lives. Hence the magazine's tagline: “Future in your daily life”. Since its redesign in 2018, which further consolidated the magazine’s essence in addressing topics of interest to the Company and its audience - such as economics, geopolitics, innovation, sustainability, art, and culture – Generali continues its efforts to breathe new life into this historic publication, renewing its graphics and content, while always respecting its original spirit from 131 years ago.
Each edition always focuses on a specific theme, serving as the title (such as ‘Sustainability’, 'Asymmetries', 'Reality') with articles written by the internal editorial staff, by external authors, important contributors in their field of expertise, and a photographic reportage that addresses the theme through visual language. Each cover is an original work, specially created by an illustrator, interpreting the central theme of the issue.
