A great show for those who love the sea
For over forty years, thousands of boaters and yachtsmen, professional and amateur alike, have come from all over Europe to participate in it. It is the Barcolana, the most popular sailboat regatta in the Mediterranean, and this year, once again, it was held in the Gulf of Trieste with a special guest: the Bora, Trieste's brisk Northerly wind. It was a wonderful Barcolana, with a complicated field made yet more challenging by the unstable intensity of the wind, which nonetheless calmed down enough, compared to the previous day, to allow many of the 1,681 participants to go out to sea without any undue anxiety. The guest of honour of the 47th edition was Isabelle Joschke, the French-German solo sailor and ambassador for Generali France, with which she has also partnered in the Horizon Mixité campaign for equal gender rights. The Barcolana, which as a sea-feast has always welcomed everyone, from the stars of the sailing world to young fun-seekers, provided a wonderful backdrop to discuss issues like gender integration and equal opportunities to meet challenges.
