Let's go to the stars
The role of insurance in the aerospace industry
In 1865 Jules Verne published “From the Earth to the Moon”, but almost one hundred years were to pass before Russian cosmonaut Jurij Gagarin started the human space exploration, with an orbital flight around the planet. Today, thanks to technologic innovation the space mission is less extraordinary then in the past, nevertheless risks remain high.
This is the reason why insurance plays a key role for the development of space activities. The main risks covered by insurance policies are: the technical problems during the launch phase, the malfunction of the satellite in orbit and the damages caused by space debris and solar storms, without forgetting the life insurance for the astronauts.
In the near future, not only the astronauts will be able to admire the Earth from the space: soon we will be ready for the space tourism.
