Empowering Disadvantaged Parents in Samut Prakan Province: Generali Thailand Supports Local Parenting Programs

Generation Y, those born between 1980 and 1997, and Generation Z, those born between 1998 and 2024, constitute a significant portion of Thailand's population, with an estimated 21.7 million individuals. Many of them have moved to the Greater Bangkok area for opportunities.
However, traditional childcare models can be insufficient for disadvantaged parents from these generations, who must adapt to unfamiliar conditions. Parenting is a monumental commitment that is challenging yet rewarding, and families deserve to have their children grow up healthy and happy during their formative years.
That’s why The Human Safety Net team in Thailand is working with the Community Children Foundation to engage disadvantaged Gen Y and Gen Z parents in Samut Prakan Province near Bangkok. The target audience is parents of preschool students (children aged 2-6 years) at Klong Bangkasee School and Suraobangkasee School. Khlong Bang Kasee, a small community in Samut Prakan Province, has been selected due to the residents’ scarcity and disadvantage. Most families suffer from unstable and insufficient income for family expenses. Many parents do not have much time to care for their children due to work commitments, and some lack awareness of the importance of education for their children.
Through the Smart Seeds Model, a six-session parenting program, we are helping to equip parents with the knowledge they need to support their children’s healthy development. From healthy eating habits and emotional development to fostering creativity, social skills, and visual skills, the program provides well-rounded advice for parents on their journeys.
Activities will be arranged on a flexible scheduling basis, and a mobile app will be utilized. A focus will be placed on social-emotional learning, integrating play-based programs and social interaction.
By acknowledging the importance of parenting and addressing the specific needs of these disadvantaged Gen Y and Gen Z parents, CCF is confident that we can create a nurturing environment that empowers children to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the nation's future.
